The jewelry I make is
inspired by all the things I love. I
love things that are old and worn, whether it's metal, wood, paint, old paper
or colors. I love to travel.
I love the changing scenery of a long distance car drive, getting to
stop into random antique stores along the way and seeing historical buildings.
I love the little details in art and architecture.
I love old light fixtures. I
really love my customers. I love
fashion magazines. I love meaning.
I love being in the moment.
I love to collect things.
My jewelry is made with
objects that I collect from flea markets, wholesale suppliers, thrift stores,
etc. I am a dual-natured
collector. My visual side wants to
gather lovely things around me while my
practical side only lets me bring home useful things like house wares and
jewelry bits. Making jewelry helps
reconcile my visual side with my practical side.
My
life up to now: I grew up in a
small Texas town where I shopped at garage sales, sewed my own clothes and
daydreamed my way through school. I
couldn’t wait to grow up and run off to Austin. I
spent my early adult years raising a fine son and making jewelry in my free
time. When my son was older I went
back to school and finished a bachelor’s degree in Art History at The
University of Texas. Soon after
finishing college I started Ornamental Things to sell my work.
And that’s what I am currently doing, for 6 years now, working
8 days a week to make it happen. I
believe that working feverishly toward what you want in life is the best way
to live in the moment.
